Ireland gets its first ODI victory over South Africa

The Ireland cricket team registered a historic win against South Africa on Tuesday. The Ireland skipper Andy Balbirnie made a remarkable century which helped the team to win the game. It was the second One Day International of the three-match series. Ireland effortlessly defeated South Africa by 43 runs in Dublin. The South African team did not succeed in chasing the target of 291. Instead, the entire South African team was back in the pavilion after scoring 247 runs in total.

The win is considered to be a major feat for Ireland as it is their very first victory against the South African rivals. Temba Bavuma, the skipper of the South African team, admitted that Ireland dominated in all the departments. Many from the cricket fraternity have appreciated the efforts of the Ireland team. The victory is a well-deserving one for the Ireland team as they demonstrated solid performances in all aspects of the game.

Andy Balbirnie’s contribution to the game

The star player of the ODI was definitely Andy Balbirnie as he led from the front and took the team towards victory. He scored 102 runs from 117 balls. Due to his stylish century, he was declared the man of the match. His match-winning knock consisted of two sixes and ten fours. During the post-match presentation, Balbirnie praised his bowlers and their bowling during the middle and death overs. He also appreciated the fielders as they were able to restrict the scores of the visitors.

During the ODI match, Balbirnie demonstrated exceptional batting skills. But he also got tremendous support from his teammates.  Harry Tector scored an impressive 79 runs from 68 balls. Towards the end, George Dockrell also made a significant contribution by scoring 45runs from only 23 balls. The South African team had rested Quinton de Kock, who is one of the key players for the team. The batsmen of the South African team fell at regular intervals, and thus their chance of getting back into the game slipped away.

As the opener match of the series was washed out, currently, Ireland is leading. If the team succeeds to win the next match, which is on Friday, Ireland could win the entire ODI series. Balbirnie stated that he was extremely happy as his team won. However, he also acknowledged that they were looking forward to the Friday match so that they could defeat South Africa and win the series.
