Faf du Plessis has been kept out from the first three Hundred games of Northern Superchargers as he continues to show the symptoms of concussions after the extreme blow to the head during the PSL match. Du Plessis suffered the concussion in the beginning when his head got collided with Mohammad Hasnain’s knee, who is his Quetta Gladiators teammate. It happened during a fixture against Zalmi in June.
The former South African captain got on his knees after a concussion and was taken to hospital for scans. After the collision, he tweeted on the same day that he was already back from the hospital and continuing to recover. Moreover, he thanked everyone for providing support. He also tweeted that he has a concussion with certain memory loss but said that he will be fine and hoped to return to the field soon. At that time, du Plessis was playing in his second match in the entire PSL tournament. He had a score of 5 against Islamabad United, and the Gladiators lost the match.
After this injury, du Plessis got ruled out of the entire tournament, and he again returned back to South Africa prior to traveling to Croatia for quarantine ahead of the Hundred matches. He went to captain the Northern Superchargers. However, Ben stokes led in the absence of du Plessis during their opening fixture on July 24 against Welsh Fire.
The medical team of Northern Superchargers accessed the 37-year-old after his arrival and decided that the best interest for the batsman is to take rest in the initial three Hundred matches. They will continue to check his progress.
Dane Vilas in Replacement of Faf du Plessis
The Northern Superchargers has confirmed on July 25 that Dane Vilas, who is the Lancashire Wicketkeeper, has been taken as a replacement till the recovery of du Plessis. He will be there as a temporary replacement. Vilas was Manchester Originals £125,000, signing in the initial draft of the competition in October 2019. However, the deal was lost when his status as a Kolpak ended. It meant that he became a good overseas player instead of a local.
The Lancashire captain Dane will therefore miss the One-Day Cup matches against Kent and Gloucestershire. Tom Bailey will be the skipper in the absence of the South African. Du Plessis became the Northern Superchargers captain after the withdrawal of Aaron Finch.
